Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Member, Tara Lynn, Releases New Single Paying Homage to HBCUs

Give us a little bit of your background and journey to your HBCU

I am a native of Sacramento, CA. During an HBCU college fair at a local Sacramento high school I spoke with a recruiter who encouraged me to attend college not because of the institution but because of my personal desire to work towards building my life. The conversation was so profound that I committed to the University. Today, I am and will always be a proud graduate of Alabama A&M University.

How did your HBCU experience impact the woman you are today ?

-My experience at Alabama A&M University was transformational and have contributed to what I now consider some of the most fondest memories of my life. I have developed life long friendships and been groomed to manage all of the rights, responsibilities, and rewards that are byproducts of being a human in today’s society. Through extracurricular activities, such as serving as the President of the Student Government Association coupled with several professional experiences, I was able to gain an in-depth understanding on disciplines such as Communications, Marketing, Sales, Logistics and Student Affairs. Today, my goal is to utilize the lessons I learned from my experiences to help and inspire others through both music and motivational speaking.

What message do you want to get across with your new song entitled “HBCU?”

– Ultimately, I hope to inform others of the ever-present relevance and importance of HBCUs.

Who are some of your musical influences ?

Hip Hop: J-Cole and Dee-1

R&B: Sade

What can we look forward to from you next ?

– In the coming weeks I will be releasing the soundtrack of my book Unmasked Yet Covered featuring the Hit Single, “HBCU”. The soundtrack will be available on all streaming platforms. I will also be doing more motivational speaking throughout colleges and universities throughout the country. Those that are interested in having speak at their University may visit my website www.taralynncrawford.com to book me.
