Bennett College is an all girls HBCU located in Greensboro, NC and founded in 1873, that has produced some remarkable leaders and world changers. We started the “Becoming a Bennett Belle” series to speak with Bennett College graduates and learn more about what becoming a Bennett Belle is all about.

What was your life like before attending Bennett College?
Prior to attending Bennett I desired and longed to grow beyond what my home environment showed me I could. As a zealous individual I just couldn’t remain inside of a box.
What inspired your decision to attend Bennett College ?
Bennett College was an answered prayer. Most of my sister belles have a story of how the college found them, however, for me, I found it. My inspiration wasn’t a person or a thing, it was Me wanting something new, a quality education and always wanting to attend a small all women’s prestige institution.
Are there other HBCU graduates in your family or are you first generation?
If first generation, how does it feel starting the legacy of HBCU greatness? *As a first generation HBCU graduate, I feel the legacy I started has broken the barrier, I am bold in encouraging all of my family to come after me to choose an HBCU and nothing less.
How did attending Bennett College transform you into the woman you are today ?

Bennett College ignited my purpose, what was inside of me that I had been sitting on began for produce while at Bennett. I was given a space to active my voice, and my interest. She (Bennett College) helped to nurture these things. I learned the value of relationships and how vital they are in lifelong transformation not just momentary change.
What were some of the most memorable moments of your HBCU experience?
My most memorable moments at Bennett are endless. I smile just thinking of them, it’s almost hard to choose. My most memorable moments have been the ones not on camera, the random sister chats, the laughs that make your stomach hurt, the late night runs to get a sister from a crazy party, Spirit of David Dance Ministry events, being a Resident Assistant to incoming freshwoman and the list continues.
Leave us with some words of advice for future Bennett Belles
To all the future Bennett Belles, my advice is to embrace and enjoy the journey. Bennett College is whatever you say it is, and your experience is what you make it. Your potential will manifest beyond just potential at Bennett. Choosing her means you are ready for the girl you are to meet the woman you will be when you leave in 4 years!
