Sean Combs, known as P. Diddy, continues to lose support from fans, companies and now even universities.
Combs has officially lost his honorary degree from Howard University after a Board of Trustees vote that took place on June 7th, 2024.
Combs originally received this degree in 2014 during the university’s 146th Commencement Ceremony, where he was awarded with an honorary doctorate degree after he dropped from Howard University in 1990 to pursue his musical career.
In addition to this development, a Howard University spokesperson released a statement stating, “This acceptance revokes all honors and privileges associated with this degree,” and that, “… the Board has directed that his name be removed from all documents listing honorary degree recipients of Howard University.”
This removal of the degree is due to the multiple allegations that Combs is facing, which include sexual assault and harassment charges as well as a video of Combs physically assaulting Venture that was released to the public earlier last month.
Due to these allegations and the surveillance video that was released Howard University dissolved all honorary and financial connection with Sean Combs.
The Howard representative also emphasized on returning the $1 million dollars that was donated to the university by Combs as well as fully dismantling his scholarship program. The representative also stated that they will, “… terminate a 2023 pledge agreement with the Sean Combs Foundation.”
Combs 2023 pledge agreement allowed the Sean Combs Foundation to donate a certain amount of money to show support for the university financially and since there has not been a payment yet according to the Howard University representative, there will be no refund after this pledge is fully dismantled.
Howard University ended the discussion by emphasizing that their university, “… is unwavering in its opposition to all acts of interpersonal violence.” Alluding that any other prominent figure can face similar consequences of a degree removal if they do not represent the values and missions of that university.
This development has many individuals on social media either celebrating or curious on how far Combs will continue to fall into infamy. As Combs continues to lose all support due to his past actions, it sends a reminder that anyone can be held accountable at any time.
