Donald Trump calls it a “Sorority Party,” Divine Nine Sororities call it Boule: Here’s the Latest on Tuesday’s Debate

Tuesday was the first Presidential Debate featuring Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. This debate featured many policies that each candidate wanted to focus on and jabs made by both candidates at each other.

One of the comments that former President Donald Trump made was how Harris would instead attend a “Sorority party” than handle more professional matters. The “Sorority party” was the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated Grand Boule that took place in late July.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated released a statement after the debate addressing the former President’s comment.

This comment also had many members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, speak out to remind individuals how impactful being a member truly is.

One organization member said, “AKA has made me a better leader. The leadership and service we do as an organization have inspired me to lead and encourage others so that they can be leaders, too. Many people believe that leadership has to be on a large scale, but the smaller leaders who come together make a big difference.”

Another member addressed Donald Trump’s response as “…Trump was trying to do anything to deflect from the question. It was very comical because he took jabs at Kamala and Biden (who isn’t even running) all night, so of course he was going to mention her sorority to try to make her look less than,” and also added that “…Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated has over 300,000 members in this organization. We do not take it lightly that one of our sisters is running for a position with such importance, so we have her back 100% throughout the campaign.”

Aside from this jab, we could see not only what policies Kamala is willing to support but also what policies Donald Trump is willing to back if he wins his second term.

The main hot topics discussed throughout the debate included women’s rights, Palestine, Project 2025, and the current economy.

For the issue of women’s rights, specifically women’s reproductive rights, Vice President Kamala Harris has continued to defend her stance that reproductive rights should not be left to the states and should be protected federally. In contrast, Donald Trump has defended the idea that states should have that power.

Both Harris and Trump addressed this issue during the debate on the main hot topic of Palestine. Former President Donald Trump addressed it as Israel defending itself and redirected it to other current global issues like Ukraine and Russia. Vice President Kamala Harris addressed the issue by acknowledging Israel’s right to defend itself but also acknowledged that there has to be a limit and that Israel crossed that limit.

The topic of Project 2025 was also addressed, and each candidate had very opposing reactions and comments about it. Trump has claimed throughout the debate that he has not read or know anything related to the agenda, while Harris has vocalized that if she is elected, she will make sure an agenda like Project 2025 will not pass.

Finally, when discussing the economy, Kamala Harris addressed many policies she was willing to support for first-time homeowners, future and new mothers, and middle-class citizens. When Trump was asked the same question, he explained his concepts of some policies while addressing his past accomplishments with the economy.

Overall, this debate is one for the books and a reminder to stay involved with your politicians at all levels.
