Legendary actor, philanthropist, and proud HBCU alum Tim Reid recently sat down with
Historically Black Since for an exclusive interview where he opened up about his journey—from
the campus of Norfolk State University to becoming one of television’s most beloved TV dads.
A Virginia native, Reid credits Norfolk State for laying the foundation for his career in the
entertainment industry. It was on that very campus that Reid discovered not only his passion for
acting but also met the love of his life—making his time at the university even more
unforgettable.

After graduating, Reid became a household name, most notably for his role as the
caring and charismatic father on the hit sitcom Sister, Sister, starring Tia and Tamera Mowry. His
portrayal left an indelible mark on a generation of viewers, solidifying his status as a cultural
icon.

Beyond the screen, Reid remains deeply connected to his HBCU roots and the principles of
brotherhood and service.
On November 14, 2010, he was initiated into the Eta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha
Fraternity, Inc., further solidifying his lifelong commitment to leadership, scholarship, and
uplifting the Black community.
As Reid continues to inspire through both his work and philanthropy, one thing remains clear:
Norfolk State University wasn’t just a chapter in his story—it was the beginning of a legacy.
