HBCU Student Channels Beyoncé’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ for SGA Campaign

When it comes to HBCU royal court and SGA campaigns, one thing is for sure: students always show up and show out, and in this case, they went above and beyond, just like Beyoncé!

Beyoncé’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ has already made history. She’s now the first Black woman to win a country Grammy in over 50 years and is currently breaking records on her tour.

Calandrea Carter, a student at Alabama State University, recently ran for SGA President with a campaign inspired by none other than Queen Bey herself. Drawing on the energy and themes of Cowboy Carter, Calandrea crafted a platform rooted in community, advocacy, resources, transparency, empowerment, and resilience.

But her campaign wasn’t just about slogans and style. Through her foundation, Carter 4 Change, she awarded a $1,000 scholarship to a fellow student, showing that real leadership means giving back, win or lose.

Although Calandrea didn’t take home the SGA presidency, her impact was noticeable. At the heart of it all, she reminded her peers that community service is the ultimate award.
