Trick Williams, a former scholar at Hampton University, is having a major moment taking over WrestleMania and walking away with championship gold.
Known to WWE fans as Trick Williams, Matrick Mondre Belton first made his name as a standout wide receiver at Hampton University from 2012 to 2013 before transferring to the University of South Carolina. As a Hampton Pirate, he built the athletic foundation that would later fuel his rise in WWE.
Now, he’s reached new heights, defeating former champion Sami Zayn on one of wrestling’s biggest stages, with Lil Yachty cheering him on from ringside.
Williams’ journey to the top has been nothing short of impressive.
He’s a two-time NXT Champion, a former NXT North American Champion, and has even held the TNA World Championship.

Earlier this year, he officially stepped into the spotlight on WWE’s main roster with his debut on Friday Night SmackDown, and now, he’s cemented his place as a champion.
Hampton University proudly celebrated its moment, sharing:
“From Hampton to WrestleMania. The Hampton family is cheering on Trick Williams, former Hampton Pirate and member of the QT9 class, as he makes his WWE WrestleMania debut in Las Vegas!”
Trick Williams is living proof of what it means to come from an HBCU and shine on the world stage.
