The Parking Lot Concert A-Town Bash Served Up HBCU Nostalgia and Timeless Classics

If you were an HBCU student in the early-late 2000s, the Parking Lot Concert: A-Town Bash Block Party was sure to unlock all of those college memories in one night. On July 3rd, 2023, Underground Atlanta was filled with nostalgia and electrifying energy as the Parking Lot Concert series took center stage. Showcasing a lineup of renowned artists who rose to fame starting in the early 2000s, this event celebrated the enduring impact of the Atlanta Hip-Hop music scene on not only the city of Atlanta, but HBCUs and across the globe.

The concert’s lineup featured an impressive roster of artists who made their mark with HBCU hits. The Shop Boyz, known for their chart-topping single “Party Like a Rockstar,” delivered a high-energy performance that had the crowd jumping and singing along. Fabo, a member of the iconic group D4L, took fans back to the era of “Laffy Taffy” and “Betcha Can’t Do It Like Me.” Dem Franchise Boyz, famous for their dance anthem “Lean wit It, Rock wit It,” had the audience grooving to their infectious beats, and we all know that no HBCU function is complete without a crowd “Swag Surfin,” which was performed by F.L.Y. Other performers included Yung Ralph, Skooly, Yung Booke, OJ Da Juiceman, Mykko Montana, Money Mu special performance from Derez De’Shon, and more. The concert also gave a few upcoming Atlanta artists a chance to showcase their talent on stage as well.
