A new chapter of gymnastics history is being written on the campus of Talladega College. Earlier this year, Talladega College announced that they would be launching their gymnastics team in partnership with Brown Girls Do Gymnastics, making Talladega only the second HBCU with a gymnastics team and the first HBCU in Alabama. Fast forward to Fall 2023, and the new team is well underway with a set of girls who are eager to put the HBCU on the map for gymnastics excellence.
“This historic moment will have a lasting impact. Establishing a women’s gymnastics team at Talladega College will expand opportunities for HBCU student athletes to compete in a rewarding sport that fosters discipline, confidence and success,” Talladega College President Gregory J. Vincent stated in the official news release on the school website.
We recently had the chance to speak with three members of the team and learn more about their journey to Talladega, being part of history, background in gymnastics and more. Watch the full interview below
