N.C. A&T Legend returns back to the NFL

The decorated North Carolina A&T Aggie football star returns back to his home state, North Carolina, but now playing at the highest level.

Tarik Cohen signed to the Carolina Panthers practice squad last Wednesday, September 16th. Cohen is making a return to the NFL after tearing ACL in 2020 with the Chicago Bears.

When Tarik suited up with the Bears, he brought his electric flying play to the Windy City. During his time he was named to a Pro Bowl in 2018 and also selected to a First-team All-Pro in the same year, both as a return specialist.

In that 2018 year, he was selected to the Pro Bowl and All-Pro. He had over 1,500 all-purpose yards with seven touchdowns.

When the ball was in his hands, you knew something special could happen, and he could take any play for six; that’s what made him so special and such a weapon for the Bears when he played.

During his time away from the NFL, Cohen got the great opportunity to become a father to a baby boy in 2021. Tarik named his baby after his late brother, Tyrell.

He used this time to go into different roles in life; he wrote “Letter to My Younger Self” reflecting on his life before the NFL and how it was losing his brother Tyrell.

Also, in this letter, he spoke on his time with the Bears and the ACL injury that took him out of the league.

Though he had been out of the league for some time, he knew he could still play and be a dynamic player in the NFL, wanting to get back to that All-Pro level.

His time with the Aggies was nothing short of electric. He earned numerous awards and was named to many All-American teams. He set records in N.C. A&T, MEAC, and FCS history.

After his final year at N.C., A&T, Cohen was the all-time leading rusher in MEAC history with 5,619 yards, and to this day, he still holds the record. His 2016 season was tabbed one of the greatest individual seasons in HBCU football history.

The once dynamic player looks to make a strong comeback for the Panthers and be a weapon for rookie quarterback Bryce Young in his home state with family watching.
