Cricket Celebration Bowl Preview

It’s that time of the year again; the HBCU Championship, also known as the Cricket Celebration Bowl, is approaching us. One team has secured its spot, the Howard Bison.

Just two weeks ago, the Bison upset the No. 7 ranked North Carolina Central Eagles, steamrolling them 50-20. Although Howard’s record is 6-5, they have the head-to-head victory against Central and a tied conference record after Howard beat Morgan State this past weekend 14-7.

Though the loss to Howard stung for the Eagles and their chances of repeating as Celebration Bowl champions, they have bigger trophies on their mind.

They will make their first appearance ever in the FCS D-I playoffs against the Richmond Spiders in the first round. They play today and kickoff will be at 2 P.M ET.

With the MEAC spot already secured in the Celebration Bowl, we now await who will represent the SWAC. Let’s see who has the best shot at representing this conference.

Florida A&M looks to have the best shot to play in the championship, but first, they must get past Prairie View A&M in the SWAC championship.

FAMU goes into the game with the best record in both conferences at 10-1 and is on a nine-game winning streak after beating Bethune Cookman in the Florida Classic 24-7.

Prairie View goes into the championship game with a 6-5 record and was routed by the Rattlers earlier in the season, 45-7.

Will the Rattlers dominate the Panthers once again, or will they get the sweetest revenge and beat the Rattlers to make it to the championship game? Whichever team wins, it will be their first Celebration Bowl appearance.

The SWAC championship will be aired on Dec. 2nd at 4 P.M. ET on ESPN2. The Celebration Bowl will be played on Dec. 16th at 12 ET.
