Four HBCU Alumni Who Represented Big at the 2025 Met Gala

The Met Gala, held on May 5th, once again with its star-studded guest list and show-stopping fashion. This year’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” was a celebration of Black culture, heritage, and excellence. 

Among the evening’s most inspiring attendees were proud HBCU graduates who continue to shape culture on and off the red carpet. Representing their alma maters with style were Debbie Allen, Megan Thee Stallion, La La Anthony, Taraji P. Henson, and Brian Tyree Henry, each bringing their unique flair and honoring the legacy of historically Black colleges and universities.

Debbie Allen (Howard University)

Debbie Allen earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from Howard University, graduating cum laude with a concentration in Classical Greek Literature, Speech, and Theater.

Styled by Oscar-winning costume designer Paul Tazewell, who recently won this year’s award for his work on Wicked, Allen stunned in a red number at the event. Tazewell added sparkling embellishments to her shoes and also created her hat.

Megan Thee Stallion (Texas Southern University)

Megan Thee Stallion earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Administration from Texas Southern University

She wore a custom Michael Kors Collection piece, featuring a white faux fox coat with a sequin-lined interior, worn over a white lace gown with crystal hand embroidery.

Taraji P. Henson ( Howard University)

Taraji P. Henson earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in Drama from Howard University.

The actress stepped out in a custom off-white Monse x Post-Imperial look, featuring a cropped blazer layered over a minidress.

Brian Tyree Henry (Morehouse College)

Brian Tyree Henry received a degree in Business from Morehouse College

He made a bold statement in a red suit designed by Nigerian fashion label Orange Culture.
