HBCU Students and Alumni Steal the Spotlight at the 57th NAACP Image Awards

HBCU pride was on full display at the 57th NAACP Image Awards.

Actress Meagan Good took a moment on the carpet at the NAACP Image Awards to pour into the next generation. Speaking directly to HBCU students and aspiring actors, she offered heartfelt advice about breaking into the industry.

Good acknowledged that challenges would happen but encouraged students to stay grounded in their purpose, remain resilient, and never give up on their dreams.

Nominees like Joshua Doss shared:

“To be honored by an organization that picks the best of the best to represent them is more than I can think to put into words.”

And the HBCU presence didn’t stop there.

Students and alumni from historically Black colleges and universities were everywhere, from working the red carpet to walking it. As previously reported, the BET Ambassador Program provided opportunities for HBCU alumni and current students to gain hands-on experience covering the awards show and participating in events throughout the weekend.

From conducting interviews to assisting with production, these students proved that HBCU talent continues to shape and influence the entertainment industry in multiple ways.

Several HBCU alumni were also honored during the ceremony.

Producer and author Will Packer took home the award for Outstanding Literary Work  Instructional for his book Who Better Than You?.

Additionally, writer and producer Deanna Nowell earned a NAACP Image Award for her work on the Disney+ series Ironheart. While Nowell did not attend an HBCU herself, she shared on the carpet that she intentionally included and acknowledged HBCU-inspired characters within the series, ensuring that their stories and culture were represented on screen.
