Game Preview & Predictions: Howard Bison vs. Morehouse Maroon Tigers

All eyes on an historic bout between the Howard Bison (0-1) and Morehouse Maroon Tigers (0-1), this Saturday.

Howard and Morehouse have crossed paths 38 times dating back to 1923, where Howard holds a 26-10-2 all-time record.

The Howard Bison look to continue their winning streak against the Tigers, with the Bison winning the most recent contest 31-0 in 2022.

Howard quarterback Quinton Williams threw for 221 yards and 2 touchdowns in their last meeting against the Tigers.

The Bison will host the Tigers Saturday at 7 PM at Greene Field on ESPN+.

Both teams are coming off tough losses opening week and are looking to redeem themselves in week 2.

Howard is coming off a tough loss on the road to Eastern Michigan 33-23. The key to Howard fixing last week’s mistakes is execution.

Senior running back Ian Wheeler expects the Bison to execute.

“I think the biggest issue last week were definitely special teams and that comes with knowing your job and doing it well when the time comes.” Wheeler said.

Wheeler rushed for 67 yards on 8 carries in the loss against Eastern Michigan, averaging 8.4 yards a carry.

This week looks a lot different for the Bison.

Morehouse is coming off a disappointing loss to Virginia Union 45-13 in week 1. The Tigers will have to lay it all out on the field to pull off an upset against Howard.

Howard is the clear favorite coming into this game and it’s not even close.

Morehouse’s loss to Virginia Union makes it clear that they cannot compete competitively with Howard.

Offensively, Howard is led by quarterback Quinton Williams who will be a problem for the Tigers to stop. The play style of the Bison’s offense will be too much for the Tigers to compete with.

The Tigers have to establish a defensive interior in the first few drives or it will be a long trip back to Atlanta for Morehouse.

“ I expect us to play fast, technical, and aggressive football. We left a lot on the field week one and we expect to show everything we can do when we concentrate on what we have to do as a team and not really on the opponent.” Wheeler said.

Running backs, Eden James and Ian Wheeler will have breakout games if the run is established early.

Sophomore Eden James rushed for 96 yards on 9 carries against Eastern Michigan.

The running back room should be ecstatic about this week’s opponent. A lot of opportunities for more carries this week.

Defensively, the Bison are led by senior HBCU All-American defensive back Kenny Gallop Jr. He totaled 7 tackles in the loss against Eastern Michigan.

The Bison’s defense will be on full display on Saturday, looking for a defensive shutout.

The Howard Bison will come up victorious against the Morehouse Maroon Tigers, and it will not be close.
