Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Welcomes Eight Honorary Members at 2025 International Conclave

During its 2025 International Conclave in Tampa, Florida, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., proudly inducted eight honorary members into its brotherhood. This year’s class represents a dynamic blend of excellence across education, music, public service, and entertainment, each individual embodying the fraternity’s motto of Culture for Service and Service for Humanity. 

Here’s a closer look at the newest Brothers of Sigma:

1. 

Edward K. Archer (Special Ed)

A pioneer in hip-hop, Special Ed made waves in the late ’80s and early ’90s with tracks like “I Got It Made” and “The Mission.” Known for his lyricism, he became one of the youngest rappers to hit mainstream success. Now, he brings his influence and cultural footprint to the brotherhood.

2. 

Fred Hammond

A gospel music icon, Fred Hammond’s voice and songwriting have defined an era of contemporary worship. As a founding member of Commissioned and a solo powerhouse, his contributions have uplifted millions. 

3. 

Leon Robinson

Known as Leon, this accomplished actor, singer, and director has starred in culturally iconic films like The Five Heartbeats, Cool Runnings, and The Temptations. Beyond acting, Leon’s impact in Black cinema and the arts has made him a legend in his own right.

4. 

Dr. Howard Fuller

A civil rights activist, educator, and former superintendent of Milwaukee Public Schools, Dr. Fuller has spent decades fighting for equity in education. 

5. 

Dr. George Koonce

A former NFL linebacker turned scholar and executive, Dr. Koonce transitioned from the gridiron to academia.His commitment to student-athlete development and his leadership in higher education showcase the balance of brains and Sigma values.

6. 

Dr. John Pierre

As Chancellor of the Southern University Law Center, Dr. Pierre has been a advocate for legal education, access, and justice. His leadership has advanced opportunities for underserved students, making a lasting impact in the legal profession.

7. 

Dave Huie

A dedicated servant-leader and community advocate, Dave Huie has worked l to uplift underserved populations through economic development and mentorship. 

8. 

Dr. DeForest B. Soaries, Jr.

Former Secretary of State for New Jersey and senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens, Dr. Soaries is a man of both public policy and pastoral guidance. 

Looks like Phi Beta Sigma continues to expand its reach with members who don’t just talk about change, they live it.
