HBCU to Hollywood Spotlight: Tati Gabrielle Set to Star in New Mortal Kombat Movie

When it comes to Historically Black Colleges and Universities producing top-tier talent, Hollywood is no stranger to their power. Tati Gabrielle, a former Spelman College student, is the latest to make major waves in the entertainment industry, this time with a starring role in the highly anticipated Mortal Kombat II.

Directed by Simon McQuoid and written by Jeremy Slater, Mortal Kombat II is the sequel to the 2021 martial arts fantasy film based on the iconic video game series created by Ed Boon and John Tobias.

Gabrielle, who majored in Drama and French at Spelman, has steadily built an impressive resume. Her passion for acting began early; she started performing at the age of three and her HBCU experience only strengthened her drive and discipline in the arts.

Since Spelman, she’s landed major roles in hit productions such as You (Netflix), The Owl House (Disney Channel), and The Last of Us (HBO).

Now, she’s entering the action-packed world of Mortal Kombat, a role that aligns perfectly with her real-life background in martial arts. Gabrielle trained in Taekwondo as a child.

From the halls of Spelman to the soundstages of Hollywood, Tati Gabrielle’s journey is proof that HBCU talent is not just surviving in the entertainment industry, it’s thriving. With Mortal Kombat II just around the corner, all eyes will be on Gabrielle.

The film will mark the fourth installment in the Mortal Kombat movie franchise and is set to hit theaters on October 24th.
