Rapper K CAMP, known for HBCU anthems like ‘Comfortable’, ‘Cut Her Off’, and ‘Money Baby’, sat down exclusively with Historically Black Since to talk all things new music and his deep love for HBCUs.
The Atlanta native recently dropped his latest project, KISS 6, featuring heavy hitters Ari Lennox and Ty Dolla $ign, another culture-shaping release that adds to his growing list of hits.
K CAMP is currently showing major love to one of his most loyal fan bases, students and alumni of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. His music has long served as the soundtrack for campus life, from yard strolls to step shows.
This homecoming season, he’s keeping that energy alive with performances at HBCUs including Hampton University, Winston-Salem State University, and Howard University.
Speaking on his connection to HBCUs, K CAMP shared:
“I’M FOREVER DOING IT FOR THE HBCUS AND SUPPORTING THEM. I DO IT FOR THE CULTURE — MY MUSIC IS FOR THE CULTURE.”
When asked which HBCU he’d attend if he had the chance, K CAMP laughed and gave his answer with no hesitation: Howard University, what many call “The Real HU.” He added that he’s always heard great things about the institution and the energy of its campus.
K CAMP also reflected on the influence of Black Greek life on his career. His songs have become favorites among members of the Divine Nine, who often stroll and step to his beats. He shared a special shoutout to the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, while making sure to show love to all D9 members, saying he wishes he’d had the chance to pledge himself.
With a new album, a new tour, and his continued commitment to supporting HBCUs, it’s clear that K CAMP’s heart remains with the culture, and he has no plans of stepping away from it anytime soon.
