The city of Jackson, Mississippi was the place to be this Labor Day weekend, as the HBCU Labor Day Classic Battle of the Bands made its debut in the city — and it did not disappoint. With a sold-out crowd filling the venue, the atmosphere was electric as ten powerhouse marching bands brought their signature sound, style, and school pride to the stage.

The event featured a star-studded lineup of HBCU marching bands, each known for their musical precision and unmatched energy:

Each band had the crowd on their feet, bringing a unique sound that represented not only their institution but also the deep tradition of HBCU marching culture. From booming brass sections to precision drumlines and unforgettable dance routines, fans were treated to a showcase that celebrated both competition and community.
A Full-Day Experience: Fan Fest & Vendors
Before the stadium was filled with sounds, fans enjoyed a Fan Fest that set the tone for the day. The outdoor celebration featured music, interactive activities, and plenty of school spirit — giving alumni, students, and supporters a chance to connect before heading inside for the big show.
Adding to the atmosphere were a variety of vendors offering food, merchandise, and unique products that highlighted local businesses and HBCU pride. From the fan fest to the vendors, the entire day felt like a true cultural festival.
While the Battle of the Bands is always about who can bring the loudest horns, the cleanest formations, and the hardest-hitting drumlines, this year’s Classic also represented something bigger: the power of HBCU culture.
The event brought together 10 different schools, spanning across multiple states, and highlighted the talent, discipline, and pride that HBCU marching bands embody. It also gave the Jackson community a new annual tradition to look forward to each Labor Day weekend.
