‘Bel-Air’ Season Finale Showcases HBCU Legacy, Shines a Spotlight on Morehouse

Peacock’s ‘Bel-Air’ closed out its season with heart, legacy, and a powerful tribute to HBCU culture.

The finale, titled “The Next Act,” delivered a full-circle moment with a surprise cameo from original ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ star Will Smith, who appears as an older “OG” version of Will, offering life advice to Jabari Banks’ character as he prepares for his next chapter.

As the story wrapped, Will’s journey came into focus with his acceptance into the University of Pennsylvania’s summer business program, prompting him to leave the nest earlier than expected and marking a hopeful transition forward.

Meanwhile, cousin Carlton, played by Olly Sholotan, teased a lighter sendoff before embarking on his own college journey, heading to Morehouse College, a proud HBCU with deep cultural significance.

In a subtle but meaningful detail, Carlton’s finale sweater became a standout symbol of that HBCU pride. The piece was designed by Tahir Murray, a Howard University student and the Founder & CEO of LegacyHistoryPride, a lifestyle brand dedicated to celebrating the impact of HBCUs and Black culture.

By spotlighting  Morehouse in Carlton’s future and spotlighting Black creative talent behind the scenes, Bel-Air ended its season not just with closure, but with intention, honoring the importance of uplifting HBCUs.
