A Florida A&M University student had a major moment at the 2026 Oscars.
Oluwamodupe “Dupe” Oloyede, the first female head drum major from FAMU, was spotlighted during the ‘Sinners’ opening performance alongside Shaboozey, Misty Copeland, Miles Canton, and Raphael Saadiq. The moment hit even deeper as she recently crossed into Delta Sigma Theta.
Dupe shared her excitement:
“I remember crying and praying with my mom for opportunities like this—and look at God. I’m so grateful for everyone who helped make this happen, the calls that were made, and the excellence that Sinners is. What an honor to perform on that stage where history was made. God really makes dreams come true.”

The Oscars turned into a full celebration of Black excellence.
Michael B. Jordan took home his first Oscar, Ryan Coogler secured a win for ‘Sinners’, and while Hampton alum Ruth E. Carter didn’t win for costume design, she continues to make history as the most-nominated Black woman in Academy history.
A powerful night that not only spotlighted Black culture but also showed the impact and importance of HBCUs on the world stage
