Howard University Launches New Course Inspired by Cardi B’s Album Rollout Strategy

Howard University students will now have the opportunity to take a brand-new course this fall centered around female rap superstar and Grammy-winning artist Cardi B.

The class will take a deep dive into Cardi’s marketing rollout for her sophomore album, ‘Am I the Drama’, breaking down the strategy behind a campaign that pushed over 200,000 units in its first week.

Offered in partnership with Warner Music Group, the course highlights how Cardi took a hands-on, street-level approach, turning everyday spaces into promo moments with sidewalk sales and subway skits across New York City. She also tapped directly into her fanbase with a multi-state meet-and-greet run, building real momentum that translated into major first-week success.

With more than 23 million equivalent album units sold throughout her career, Cardi B’s influence stretches far beyond music.

And this isn’t new territory for Howard University. The institution has long supported legendary talent, with alumni ranging from Roberta Flack to Richard Smallwood and rising voices like Lady London. Music has always been part of Howard’s DNA, but this latest move puts a spotlight on hip-hop and marketing.
