North Carolina Central University(NCCU) rolled past rival North Carolina A&T(A&T) on Saturday in the annual Aggie Eagle Classic, putting up the best offensive performance in program history in a 62-21 road win.
It was the 97th meeting, with A&T leading the series 54-37-5, though NCCU has won the last three, including a 66-24 win last year in Durham.
With this most recent win,the eagles have now scored a total of 108 points in back to back matches.
The Eagles (3-2) racked up 765 yards of total offense, the first 700-yard game in school history while holding the Aggies (1-3) to 294 yards, including just 42 on the ground.
Chris Mosley led the way with 168 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries, while also catching four passes for 90 yards and two more scores. Arthur Rodgers added 129 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries.
Quarterback Walker Harris threw for 388 yards and three touchdowns, completing 22 of 29 passes.
NCCU built a 31-14 lead at halftime and pulled away with 31 second-half points. The Eagles’ defense shut out the Aggies in the fourth quarter.
A&T quarterback Kevin White, returning from injury, completed 10 of 16 passes for 232 yards and a touchdown, and added a rushing score.
Despite the lopsided loss, Aggies head coach Shawn Gibbs said his focus remains on improving his team.
“I’m not worried about anything. That’s not how I operate,” Gibbs said. “When I go into any game the rest of the season, I’m going in there to win it. I’m definitely concerned about us being the best version of ourselves in each and every game. But I’m not going to back down.”
