T.I. Donates $50K to Morris Brown College as HBCU Enters New Era of Growth

Rapper T.I. is continuing to show love to HBCUs, making a $50,000 donation to Morris Brown College as the institution prepares for a major revamp following years of challenges.

The donation comes at an important moment for the Atlanta-based HBCU, which is entering a new chapter of growth and rebuilding.

Morris Brown has recently experienced leadership changes, with current university president Dr. Kevin James being briefly removed and later reinstated. In a recent address, Dr. James made it clear that the focus is now on healing, unity, and moving forward.

During his remarks, Dr. James also revealed that the college has secured a total of $800,000 in grant and gift funds that will play a key role in the school’s ongoing transformation.

A significant portion of these funds was secured through the advocacy of Congresswoman Nikema Williams. Representing Georgia’s Fifth Congressional District and serving as a member of the Bipartisan HBCU Caucus, Williams was instrumental in ensuring the college received this funding.”

Speaking on Morris Brown’s new era of leadership, Dr. James shared:

“We move forward not divided but aligned. Anchored in our mission, guided by our Christian faith, and committed to being excellent. To everyone who is listening to the sound of my voice, the work continues. Our immediate priorities are to continue our healing journey while we maintain our focus on preparation for our upcoming accreditation visit next week.”

Morris Brown’s resurgence has been years in the making. In 2022, the college regained full accreditation from the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS) after nearly 20 years, an achievement that marked an important comeback from past financial hardships and restored the school’s eligibility for federal financial aid programs.

According to Dr. James, the newly secured funds, including T.I.’s contribution, will be directed toward student scholarships and the continued advancement of the college.
