In our My Favorite Things series, she shares what inspires her choreography, how she defines leadership, and what keeps her grounded beyond the field.

Favorite music genre or artist to choreograph to?
โI enjoy choreographing to 90s R&B, Southern hip hop, uptempo pop music, and Afrobeats because each style allows for musicality, energy, and storytelling. The variety gives dancers space to show versatility, control, and strong performance quality.โ
Favorite dance style to teach or perform?
โJazz will always have my heart. It allows for technique, strength, performance quality, and personality all at once. It is where discipline meets artistry.โ
Favorite game day, halftime, or performance moment with your team?
โHalftime performances are my favorite. That moment when everything comes together โ the music, precision, energy, and crowd reaction โ makes all the hard work worth it.โ
Favorite part about leading an HBCU dance team?
โBuilding legacy. It is about more than dance. It is shaping confident young women, instilling discipline and pride, and teaching them how to carry themselves beyond the field. Being able to pour into students while honoring tradition and culture makes the experience even more meaningful.โ
Favorite band song or moment to dance to in the stands or on the field?
โGyalchester and Power by the Southern University Band are my favorite songs to dance to. My favorite moment in the stands will always be Fifth Quarter. Whoโs Loving You and FWU are currently my favorite Fifth Quarter moments with my very own Texas Southern Motion of the Ocean.โ
Favorite tradition or ritual your dance team has before performances?
โOur pre-performance moment of unity. Whether it is a prayer, words of encouragement, or simply locking in together, it reminds us that we are moving as one.โ
Favorite lesson dance has taught you about leadership or life?
โDance has taught me that leadership requires patience, humility, and the ability to listen, while understanding that growth is often uncomfortable. The moments that challenge you the most are the ones that build character, discipline, and resilience โ both as a leader and as a person.โ
Favorite way to unwind or practice self-care outside of dance?
โSpending intentional time to disconnect and reset โ whether thatโs journaling, listening to music, or allowing myself moments of stillness. Those quiet moments help me stay grounded and mentally present.โ
Favorite thing people would be surprised to learn about you?
โI am actually very soft spoken and reflective outside of coaching. I value quiet observation and intentional thought, which helps guide how I lead and make decisions.โ
Favorite meal or go-to food spot near campus?
โAnything comfort style. A good seafood or soul food spot always does it for me.โ
Coach Danielle N. Stamper represents the heart of HBCU dance culture โ disciplined, intentional, rooted in tradition, and forward-focused. Through every performance, sheโs not just building routines โ sheโs building legacy.
