ESPN’s flagship program SportsCenter will visit Jackson State University on Feb. 2 for a live broadcast from the Lee Williams Athletic and Assembly Center to kick off Black History Month, shining a national spotlight on a Historically Black institution.
The daily sports news show, which features breaking news, highlights and in depth analysis, will be hosted by ESPN anchor Amina Smith. The live broadcast begins at 1 p.m. CT, and Smith will also host the 4 p.m. edition of SportsCenter from campus.
The broadcast is part of ESPN’s Black History Month coverage and will highlight the importance of Historically Black Colleges and Universities while showcasing the history and impact of black culture in sports.
The program will include an interview with Jackson State men’s basketball coach Mo Williams, who will discuss the Tigers’ upcoming matchup against Southern later that evening. Williams will also participate in a free-throw shooting contest with Andscape senior writer and ESPN analyst David Dennis Jr.
Jackson State’s marching band, the Sonic Boom of the South, along with band director Dr. Roderick Little, will join Smith for a segment. The show will also highlight Jackson State’s legacy and impact.
Fans and students may attend the live show. Doors open at noon CT, and attendees must arrive by 12:15 p.m.
