Two-time Grammy Award-winning artist Jermaine Cole, known professionally as J. Cole, made a stop at North Carolina A&T State University over the weekend as part of a CD tour for his latest album, The Fall Off, which debuted Friday.
Cole shared on social media that early in his career, he traveled to the Greensboro campus to sell CDs out of the trunk of his car during homecoming.
“NC A&T, first time I ever sold a physical version of my own full project was on your campus during homecoming,” Cole tweeted. “We sold The Come Up for $1 out the trunk of this car. I’m about to drive to Greensboro right now to see if I can sell a couple copies of The Fall Off tonight. Full circle.”

Cole’s visit may also be tied to a reference to the university in “Safety,” the second track on side one of the album.
The Fayetteville native was met with cheers and excitement upon his arrival, stopping to sign memorabilia and take photos with a large crowd of students and fans.
Cole is expected to post updates on his social media regarding future stops. While North Carolina A&T marked his first visit to an HBCU on the tour, it may not be his last.
