A reimagined take on the ‘A Different World’ theme song is here, and it’s backed by vocals from R&B songstress and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. member Brandy Norwood.
As previously reported, the reboot is set to premiere this fall, with original cast members Jasmine Guy and Kadeem Hardison returning to reprise their iconic roles as Whitley Gilbert and Dwayne Wayne.
This time, the story centers on their daughter, Deborah Wayne, played by Maleah Joi Moon.
With a fresh take on the beloved HBCU-centered series moving forward, fans have been wondering who would perform the new version of the iconic theme song, and now that question has been answered.
In a newly shared Instagram post, Brandy is seen performing a remixed version of the beloved theme song, complete with her signature vocal riffs and soulful delivery.
Brandy shared her excitement about recording the new version, saying,
“Singing this iconic theme song for A Different World means everything to me,” she continued. “It was one of those shows that I had to watch every time it came on. I remember the song and how it made me feel.”
The ‘A Different World’ reboot is set to premiere on Netflix on September 24 with a 10-episode first season. With Brandy lending her voice to the new theme song and the series officially wrapped, nothing seems to be standing in the way of this HBCU classic reclaiming the spotlight.
